Press retrofitting secures production

“Retrofit is not just the replacement of old parts that results in an ‘as good as new’ machine,” says Sven Payson, CEO of Rotapress Saarburg, Germany, who reported on his experience Wednesday morning at the Media Port Power of Print. For his company, retrofit represented an opportunity to secure its production without having to invest in a new press.

“What you have to consider is that the basis is an old press, so that involves various risks and imponderabilities that can show up during the process. You as a user have to accompany and assist your retrofit partner through the whole project. And since this is a longtime partnership, you have to be sure to find the right partner,” says Payson.

The benefits of retrofitting include equipment availability and production security, guaranteed spare parts and support for 10 years, and modern control components.

“If you get your retrofit right, it can be a good alternative to a new machine,” he says.
