Joint statement by the Media Freedom Coalition – Consultative Network: More must be done to defend journalists and media freedom

The Media Freedom Coalition – Consultative Network, a group of 22 organizations representing civil society, press freedom and media development groups and journalists worldwide, calls on the Media Freedom Coalition to take stronger and more concrete actions to defend media freedom and the safety of journalists worldwide.

WAN-IFRA’s 2022 Product Portfolio Now Available

2022-02-01. WAN-IFRA presents its 2022 event portfolio after a banner year in 2021. In 2021 close to 10,000 media professionals from different parts of the world joined at least one of WAN-IFRA’s events. Sixteen major sponsored conferences alone have reached over 6,000 professionals. The 72nd World News Media Congress – WAN-IFRA’s flagship event – attracted more than 1,000 registrants, and Digital Media Asia broke its participation record with over 900 registrations.

Global study analysing sexual harassment in newsrooms released by WAN-IFRA Women in News

New data from a global study analysing sexual harassment in 20 countries finds, on average, 41% of women media professionals have experienced sexual harassment of some kind in the workplace. Women and gender non-conforming media professionals are almost three and a half times more likely to experience harassment than men.

WAN-IFRA joins EU4 INDEPENDENT MEDIA (EU4IM) capacity building project for journalists in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine

2022-01-03. The EU-funded project (#423-349) aims to raise the abundance of quality journalism in the independent media sector from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. EU4IM encourages fact based, gender inclusive and reliable public interest journalism exerting its watchdog role. It contributes to boosting the resilience of the media by strengthening its financial sustainability.

2021-12-23. Malayala Manorama’s manoramaonline.com bagged the ‘ Best in News Website’ South Asian Digital Media Award for the third time in a row. Among the winners are The Hindu, Hindustan Times, The Quint, Mojo Story, NDTV Convergence, Times of India Digital and Sakal.
