2020-10-26. WAN-IFRA announces the names of 23 news publishers participating in its Table Stakes Europe initiative for the coming year. The programme is growing fast, almost doubling from the original 14 participants in 2019/20 and replicating the rapid growth of the same programme in the United States.

2020-10-20. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a proposed rule to fix the stay of non immigrants to improve national security. Specifically, the proposed rule seeks to remove the current framework that allows representatives of foreign Information media to remain in the United States for as long as they maintain compliance with the terms and conditions of their period required to complete their assignment, or employment.

Singapore Press Holdings sweeps Asian Digital Media Awards 2020 with five wins

The results of this year’s Asian Digital Media Awards were announced in a virtual ceremony held during the online edition of WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Asia conference, and presented by veteran BBC, CNBC and Al-Jazeera news presenter, Teymoor Nabili, who is now CEO and Publisher of Tech for Impact Asia.

Tribute to Boris Fuchs

2020-10-16. Boris Fuchs, our dear friend and former colleague at WAN-IFRA, passed away this past week at the age of 87. The impact of his contributions on our industry and WAN-IFRA cannot be overstated. More importantly, the same can be said of the impact that his open, friendly nature had on his colleagues, family and friends.

Five Prizes for Innovation Excellence Awarded to Young European Talent in News

2020-10-15. The Stars4Media consortium presented yesterday the projects developed under its European exchange and training initiative for young news media professionals launched last Spring. More than 100 young news media professionals coming from 42 news organisations in 17 countries participated in the one-year long programme. Twenty-one projects were presented yesterday during a conference held in Brussels at Europe’s Media Lab, Fondation EURACTIV. Five teams were awarded for the outstanding quality of their work.

More than 120 newsrooms across the world will mark World News Day 2020 on Monday 28 September, highlighting the critical role that journalism and professional newsrooms play in helping citizens make sense of the world. World News Day is an initiative driven by the Canadian Journalism Foundation and the World Editors Forum, the network for editors within WAN-IFRA. It was initiated in Canada in 2018, and this is the first year it is being celebrated as one integrated global event

Indian Media Leaders eSummit: Leaders call for efforts to make the readers pay for the news they consume

The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) hosted the first virtual edition of the Indian Media Leaders eSummit on 21 and 22 September, with more than 500 news media executives registered from across South Asia. The summit brought together ideas on business transformation, future of news, structural changes in the Indian journalism revenue pattern.

New Board Leaders Take Office at WAN-IFRA’s Annual Meeting

2020-09-22. WAN-IFRA is announcing today ten new members who will be serving on its Supervisory Board of Directors. They were elected the Association’s Annual General Assembly of Members held on Wednesday 16 September. Four new members will be serving on its Executive Board of Directors and twenty-five Board Members were also reappointed for a new term of office at the same meeting.
