Anastasiia Stanko

Anastasiia Stanko, a Ukrainian journalist and TV presenter, co-founded the independent media channel Hromadske in 2013. Since then, she’s been actively involved, currently serving in its General Assembly. Stanko gained prominence covering the Maidan Revolution and subsequent events, including the Crimea referendum and the Donbass conflict, where she was briefly held hostage in 2014.

Her work includes video reports and articles focusing on civilians in conflict zones, notably through her project “Hromadske.East.” Stanko’s investigations into events like the Maidan Square shootings have earned her accolades, including the 2016 Mezhyhirya Festival main prize.

Recognized for her courage, Stanko received the international press freedom award in 2018 and was honored by the International Women Media Foundation in 2019. She served as editor-in-chief of Hromadske from 2020 to 2021 before returning to the front lines as a war correspondent amid the full-scale Russian invasion. Since 2023, she’s been editor-in-chief of investigative agency Slidstvo.info.
