Christine Buhagiar is AFP’s director for development and diversifications since summer 2025.

As such she oversees AFP’s diversification of commercial revenues and also innovation projects. She supervises AFP’s involvement in a number of EU and institutions’ funded programs focusing on AI and the fight against disinformation.

Christine studied at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and the Centre de Formation des Journalistes. She covered French current affairs for several years for AFP before joining the London bureau where she acted as news editor during the Blair years. Returning to Paris she led the creation of a competitive AFP video production that would stand out from its competitors in a media environment characterised by an increasing demand for images. After spending 15 years developing the video service, Christine was appointed Europe director, a job she did for ten years. She has been active in the fight for neighboring rights EU directive and ensured AFP could provide a comprehensive coverage of the war in Ukraine and the news on the whole continent.
