Joan Chirwa is a Zambian journalist with over 18 years of experience both in the field and editorial management.
She is the founder of the Free Press Initiative Zambia, a non-profit media organization. Joan served as the first female Managing Editor of The Post Newspapers from February 2015 until its liquidation in November 2016. She then moved to become Editor in Chief and CEO of The Mast, the Post’s forerunner, until 2018.
Joan has a Master of Arts Degree in Mass Communication from Leicester University in the United Kingdom, Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from the University of Zambia and a Diploma in journalism from Evelyn Hone College in Zambia.
She is also Southern Africa Correspondent for Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), covering Botswana, ESwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
