Joseph Odindo is a lecturer at the Graduate School of Media and Communications of the
Aga Khan University, Nairobi. He has more than 40 years’ experience in journalism,
newsroom leadership and media product development, having been Editorial Director of
the Nation Media Group between 2009 and 2014. He held a similar position at the rival
Standard Group upto 2018.
Odindo rose through the ranks as a reporter, sub-editor and managing editor.
Under his leadership, The Standard – a multimedia news publisher – formally initiated its
digital transformation strategy. He was the founding editor of the Nation Media Group’s
regional newspaper The EastAfrican, which he headed for six years and also served as
managing editor of the Daily Nation between 1999 and 2006.
Odindo holds a Masters in Journalism from the University of Wales, Cardiff, and underwent
management training at Harvard Business School.
