
Katell has been with Agence France-Presse (AFP) since 2002. She currently serves as the Asia-Pacific Editor-in-Chief, overseeing the coverage from the agency’s 26 bureaus in the region, which includes approximately 250 journalists. While her primary focus is on major breaking news in the Asia-Pacific, she is also directing coverage on key editorial priorities, such as the Future of the Planet and technology. From 2022 to 2024, Katell was based in Beijing as the Bureau Chief for China and Mongolia. She is fluent in English and Spanish, and has been learning Japanese, Chinese, and Korean throughout her career. Before her time in Asia, Katell spent eight years in Latin America, where she worked as a regional correspondent in Montevideo, Uruguay, and then as the bureau chief in Havana, Cuba. She has reported from over a dozen countries, covering significant events such as political crises, natural disasters, and nationwide protests. Before her work overseas, she was a reporter in France and Spain, specialising in economic and business coverage.
