
Nagieb Khaja is an internationally recognised and award-winning journalist and documentary maker whose films and reports have been featured on BBC, Al Jazeera English, Vice International and Guardian. Nagieb is also an author and has written a number of books, including the critically acclaimed, ‘The Story That Is Not Being Told – About the War in Afghanistan’. In 2017, Nagieb’s book about his personal experiences in war-torn Syria ‘Don’t cry or you will lose blood’ was published. He won the Cavling Prize (prominent Danish journalistic award) in 2021 together with colleagues from Ekstra Bladet for the article series about Danish children in Syrian prison camps. In 2023, he and Martin Tamm Andersen were also nominated for a Cavling Award for the documentary ‘The deception in Helmand’.
For the past 20 years, Nagieb has focused his journalistic work on the conflicts in Afghanistan, Syria and Israel-Palestine and is one of the few journalists worldwide who has gained access to leaders of jihadist groups such as Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Nagieb has also directed a documentary on Al Qaeda in Syria, Western Jihadis in Syria for Al Jazeera English, where he meets the movement’s spokesman and several of their fighters, as well as a number of other interesting documentaries such as ‘Inside The Taliban for BBC Panorama’, ‘On The Frontlines With The Taliban’ and the award-winning ‘My Afghanistan’, which is about the lives of civilians in conflict-torn Helmand, Afghanistan.
