Nan Paw Gay, born on March 12, 1971, in Hpa-an, the capital of Karen State in Burma, has dedicated nearly 24 years to media work. She completed her high school education at No.1 High School, Hpa-an, followed by two years at Hpa-an Regional College and another two years at Mawlamyine University, earning a B.Sc in Chemistry.

Since April 2000, Nan Paw Gay has been an integral part of the Karen Information Center (KIC), an exile media organisation based on the Thai-Myanmar border. Concurrently, she joined the Karen Women Organization (KWO) and served on its central executive committee after being elected at the 3rd Congress in 2000.

Initially tasked with central audit responsibilities for eight years, Nan Paw Gay later shifted her focus to the central standing committee of KWO, where she has remained for over two decades.

In 2008, she assumed the role of Chief Editor and Director of Multimedia Production at KIC, overseeing content creation in Karen, Myanmar, and English. Her efforts aimed to establish KIC as an independent media outlet serving Karen communities across borders and around the world.

Throughout Myanmar’s political transition, Nan Paw Gay worked on enhancing KIC’s brand and ensuring its sustainability through strategic marketing. Nan Paw Gay’s influence extends beyond KIC; she has been instrumental in fostering collaboration among ethnic media outlets, notably as a member of Burma News International (BNI). Currently serving as Chairperson of BNI’s Policy Affairs Committee, she played a pivotal role in the formation of the Independent Press Council Myanmar (IPCM) following the recent coup. Elected as Chairperson of IPCM in December 2023, she now leads efforts to uphold press freedom and journalistic standards during a critical period in Myanmar’s history.
