Nirupama Subramanian

Independent Journalist

Nirupama Subramanian is an independent journalist with over 36 years of experience in print media. She spent most of her career at two of India’s leading newspapers – The Indian Express and The Hindu. Today, she continues her work as a columnist for The Tribune, Deccan Herald, and Newslaundry, focusing mainly on South Asian affairs.

Nirupama has spent several years living and reporting from Sri Lanka and Pakistan, building deep friendships across borders. She is the author of two books – “Sri Lanka: Voices from a War Zone” and “Murder on the Menu.”

An alumna of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and the Delhi School of Economics, she was honoured with the Distinguished Alumna Award in 2023. She is also a proud recipient of the prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University in 2002.
