Sunanda Mehta is the Resident Editor of The Indian Express, Pune and the author of three books.

A merit-lister and gold medallist in History, she is a triple-graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (History Honours) from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, Bachelor of Education, Delhi University and Bachelor of Communication and Journalism, University of Pune.

She was one of the youngest editors in the country at the age of 25 when she launched Citadel, the Pune city magazine as its founder editor in 1990. After that she moved onto The Indian Express where she has been working for past over 25 years.

A visiting faculty at the Savitribai Phule Pune University, she has been a Chevening fellow in London, presented papers related to journalism at the Warwick University in UK and at conferences in Dubai. One of her articles on Restorative Justice titled ‘The Quality of Mercy’ published in The Indian Express was made into a television film `Rubaru Roshini’ produced by actor Aamir Khan in 2018. She also featured in an award winning documentary made by a US TV channel on the changing face of India.

Sunanda’s first book was “The Extraordinary Life And Death of Sunanda Pushkar” published by Pan Macmillan.  Released in 2019 it received rave reviews and went onto becoming a bestseller. Her second book is a translation of the poetry of her great grandfather Sardar Sahib Charan Singh Shahid a renowned poet, writer and editor of his times, who specialised in humour and satire. She has translated his poems from Punjabi (Badshaian) to English (Majestic Musings). Her third book is Behind the Big Screen, published by Bloomsbury is  based on the lives of child actors of the Indian cinema.
