Event Code of Conduct

​​WAN-IFRA is committed to providing a safe environment for all participants of our events, free from discrimination and harassment. Your registration for, or attendance at any WAN-IFRA event, indicates your understanding of and agreement to abide by this Code of Conduct and its terms.  

WAN-IFRA will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment based on race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, national origin, ethnic background, age, disability, political opinion, social status, veteran status, union membership or genetic information.

While at WAN-IFRA events, in-person or virtual, any participant, including speakers, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, booth staff and anyone else, should not engage in discrimination or harassment of any kind.  This holds for social and other adjacent activities.    

DEFINITIONS

Harassment includes using abusive, offensive or degrading language, intimidation, stalking, harassing photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, sexual imagery and unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favours. 

Sexual harassment is any unwanted and offensive behaviour of a sexual nature that violates a person’s dignity and makes them feel degraded, humiliated, intimidated or threatened. 

Discrimination is the act of making unjustified distinctions between human beings based on the groups, classes, or other categories to which they are perceived to belong. These include race, gender, age, religion, or sexual orientation.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR 

Be considerate and respectful to all event participants, including staff, suppliers and service providers.

Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour, materials, and speech.

Speak up if you observe anything at an event that conflicts with this Code of Conduct. 

If you are being harassed or feel uncomfortable, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please immediately alert a member of the WAN-IFRA event staff.

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR 

Harassment will not be tolerated in any form, whether in person or virtually, including, but not limited to, harassment based on race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, national origin, ethnic background, age, disability, political opinion, social status, veteran status, union membership or genetic information.

Any report of harassment or discrimination at one of our events, whether in person or virtual, will be addressed immediately. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately. 

Anyone who witnesses or is subjected to unacceptable behaviour should notify a conference organiser at once.  Exhibitors should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material in their booths and must refrain from using sexualised clothing, uniforms, costumes, or otherwise creating a sexualised environment.

Speakers should not use sexual language, images, or any language or images that would constitute harassment as defined above in their talks. 

CONSEQUENCES 

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, whether in person or virtually, the conference organisers may take action they deem appropriate. Depending on the circumstances, this may range from a warning to the expulsion of the offending individual from the conference with no refund. 

WAN-IFRA reserves the right to exclude an attendee from participating in any further WAN-IFRA events, training or other activities if they are found to have engaged in harassing behaviour. 

IF YOU WITNESS OR ARE ON THE RECEIVING END OF UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR

If you are being harassed or discriminated against, notice that someone else is being harassed or discriminated against, or have any other concerns relating to harassment or discrimination, please contact a member of the conference staff immediately. 

RESPONSE 

If any attendee engages in harassing behaviour, whether in-person or virtually, the conference organisers may take any action they deem appropriate. Depending on the circumstances, this may range from issuing a warning to the offending individual to expulsion from the conference with no refund.

WAN-IFRA  reserves the right to exclude any participant found to be engaging in harassing behaviour from participating in any future WAN-IFRA events, trainings or activities.  

ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Participants of in-person and virtual WAN-IFRA events are expected to respect each others’ intellectual property and intellectual contributions. As such, WAN-IFRA will not tolerate users who engage in plagiarism, copyright and/or intellectual property infringement, sharing others’ words and ideas without attribution, or mining the group for financial gain or profit. 

This includes:

  • Passing off someone’s ideas or words as your own (even if you’ve changed some of the language).
  • Sharing someone else’s ideas or words without attribution or failing to use quotation marks to indicate you’re reproducing someone else’s words.
  • Deliberately misrepresenting or lying about the source of your contributions.
  • Sharing content, including screenshots, messages or other written or visual content, without express written permission from the creator (this does not include public tweets or blog posts written elsewhere).
