Is 2026 shaping up to be the ‘show me the money’ year for AI?

Venky Ganesan, a partner at Menlo Ventures, declared that 2026 is the
“show me the money” year for AI.
He added that “enterprises will need to see real ROI (return on investment) in their spend, and countries need to see meaningful increases in productivity growth to keep the AI spend and infrastructure going.”

In the news media industry, Artificial Intelligence has been reshaping the landscape at a stunning pace over the last couple of years. A great deal has changed in a short period of time. The early attitude of cautious experimentation has shifted toward a sense that action and full-scale implementation are urgently required, as early adopters demonstrate measurable productivity gains and clear market differentiation.

Attend our AI Forums in 2026 to learn about:

  • The shift from “tools” to “agents” – agentic AI, multi-step reasoning, and systems that act on behalf of users. Explore how AI agents operate inside media workflows, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) and tool orchestration.
  • Industrialisation of AI within media companies and scaling AI in production environments for measurable, sustainable ROI.
  • Audience and distribution transformation – how traditional search is being replaced by answer engines, chat interfaces embedded across platforms, and advanced recommendation systems.
  • Building newsroom capabilities – improving workflows, enhancing operational efficiencies, and increasing productivity.
  • Governance & trust – regulation, copyright, deepfakes, and safeguarding public value in an AI-driven ecosystem.
