Frédéric Filloux

Frédéric Filloux is a French journalist and an entrepreneur. He is the creator of Deepnews.ai, a project aimed at surfacing quality journalism from the web by using machine learning algorithm, a project that he started as a Knight Fellow at Stanford. He is also the editor of the Monday Note, a newsletter/blog that covers digital business models and technology since 2007. The Monday Note reaches between 30,000 and 60,000 media professionals each week and the newsletter has 13,000 subscribers.

Since 2018, he is an associate professor at Sciences-Po Journalism school.

During the academic year  2016-2017, Frederic was a Knight Fellow at Stanford University, along with seventeen other media professionals selected for the program. That’s where he started the Deepnews project.

Before that, Frederic spent four years as head of digital operations for Groupe Les Echos, France’s leading business news provider. From 2007 until 2010, Frédéric Filloux was working as an editor for the international division of the Norwegian media group Schibsted ASA. In 2002, he was part of the managing team that launched the free daily 20 Minutes, which became the most read newspaper in France with 20 local editions and 120 journalits. Before, he spent 12 years at Liberation, one of the most innovative French media at the time, successively as a business reporter, New York correspondent, editor of the tech section, manager of online operations, and finally, editor of the paper.

He also has experience in the advertising business after a one-year stop at the Paris Groupe BDDP agency (now TBWA). He is a graduate of the Bordeaux School of Journalism.

Fiona Chan

George Brock

George Brock is a journalist, consultant and media researcher. He was the director of the journalism school at City, University of London, from 2009 to 2014 and later a visiting professor.

He began his reporting career at the Yorkshire Evening Press and The Observer, joining The Times in 1981. After starting at The Times as a feature writer, he became a features editor and, in 1984, op-ed page editor. He was subsequently foreign editor, Brussels bureau chief, European Editor, Managing Editor and Saturday Editor.

Maria Lourdes (Nini) Cabaero

Maria Lourdes (Nini) Cabaero is a pioneer of new media in Philippine community journalism. She was director for content for the integrated newsroom and editor-in-chief of SunStar Cebu, flagship newspaper of the Cebu-based SunStar Publishing Inc. She retired on March 1, 2021. She continues with SunStar as columnist and consultant on digital. SunStar in the only network of community newspapers in the Philippines.

Cabaero holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, and a master’s degree in journalism from the Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University. She currently teaches at the Ateneo master’s program for journalism. Cabaero was a Sandra Burton–Nieman Fellow where she spent an academic year at Harvard University from 2013 to 2014. She took courses at the Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She won as “Newsmaker of the Year” in November 2020 in the Globe Media Excellence Awards of Globe Telecom for her “impactful body of work” that year and her role in the digital transformation of the community press in the Philippines.

Roby Alampay

Prior to joining the BBC, Sally worked at Univision Communications in California, USA for 11 years, rising to the role of Media Research Director during the last 3 years of her tenure at Univision’s Los Angeles office where she was in charge of research operations and best practices of the company’s 64 owned & operated TV stations across the US and Puerto Rico.

Sally serves as a committee member at AVIA (Asia Video Industry Association) and Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) in Singapore, Southeast Asia & India. In the past, she’s been an industry fellow at the Institute of Asian Consumer Insights at the Nanyang Technological University, a board member of the Media & Marketing Research Council of Los Angeles as well as an advisory committee member for Nielsen’s eNames Client Advisory Committee in USA.

A native Taiwanese, Sally grew up and was educated in Taipei before getting her Master’s degree in Communications from Northwestern University, USA.

Tim Griggs

Global Program Director, Facebook News Accelerator

Tim Griggs is the global program director of the Facebook Accelerator. Tim began his career as a journalist and was the executive editor of the Star-News in Wilmington, N.C., then owned by The New York Times Company. In 2008, he joined The New York Times as director of strategic planning, where he helped envision and articulate company strategy; one of the most significant of those initiatives was determining whether and how to charge digital consumers for content. In 2011, he became director of paid products, leading the cross-functional team responsible for The Times’s digital subscription business. Tim left The Times in 2013 to be publisher of the Texas Tribune, a nonpartisan, nonprofit startup in Austin.

Tan Lee Chin

Group COO (Group Strategy and Content), Media Chinese International, Malaysia

 Lee Chin is Group COO (Group Strategy and Content) of Media Chinese International Malaysia which publishes four leading Chinese newspapers in Malaysia and owns digital assets which cover 70% of Chinese web portal traffic in Malaysia. She currently leads M-Lab, the audience innovation and creative content hub of the group, which is tasked to drive digital audience and revenue growth.

She joined Sin Chew Daily as a culture and education reporter in 2008 and has since assumed different roles within the media organization and has vast experience developing digital growth strategy and innovative products.

Victoria C Schultz

Executive Vice President, Amedia, Norway

Victoria C. Schultz is an executive vice president for advertising sales, and has been with Amedia since 2011. Prior to joining the top management team, she was the CEO of one of the largest newspapers in the group and a regional director where she kickstarted the digital subscription transformation of all eight newspapers while securing profitable margins which were among the highest in the group. She has been in the media industry since 1999 and has various commercial and financial roles all related to the digital development of the media business. She has experience from several media houses in Norway and Denmark.

Prior to joining the media industry she spent five years in finance, at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in London and DnB Markets in Oslo. She is on the Board of MBL (Norwegian Media Businesses’ Association), head of the consumer and advertising group at MBL and has board experience from several digital startups and growth companies. Schultz is participating in WAN-IFRA’s Media Professionals Programme (MPP) as mentor for media companies and professionals in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar. Victoria holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, an MBA from NHH Norwegian School of Economics and is a Certified European Financial Analyst.
