Some media companies have been generating enough digital advertising growth to offset declines in their legacy media businesses. One example of such a media company is Deseret Digital Media (DDM) based in Salt Lake City in the state of Utah in the US. Except for the usual broad portfolio of display, pre-roll video, and in creating and distributing content for customers in native formats and media agency products, DDM has also been successful in building successful market places, thanks to early disruptive innovation and positioning under their local radio and tv brand KSL.com. The three pillars of the ad business of DDM today are revenues derived from news, classifieds, cars, homes, among others. Important has been an effective sales organization and a “laser focus” on data as a pattern for DDM’s strategy.
