Miguel Ángel Oliver

President, Agencia EFE, Spain

Born in Madrid, in 1963.

Bachelor’s degree in information science and journalism, at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid.
President of the Spanish News Agency EFE since December of 2023, he has also been Secretary of State for Communication between 2018 and 2021.

He has developed a long professional career in the Cadena Ser radio group and at Mediaset Media Group, as, both, an editor and presenter of different news programmes.

Oliver has also been an associate professor of journalism at the Rey Juan Carlos and Antonio de Nebrija universities in Madrid, where he has taught for more than a decade about radio, television and television reporting, as well as institutional communication.

He has ́been awarded with the Antena de Oro de Televisión, in 2014; Premio Iris from the Academy of Television, in 2016, the Ondas Award for best radio programme for “Hora 25′, in 1998 and another Ondas Award for best radio programme for “Hoy por Hoy”, in 2001.

In 1995 he received the Antenas de Plata de Radiodifusión prize.

Zach Seward

Editorial Director of AI Initiatives, The New York Times, USA

Zach Seward is the editorial director of artificial-intelligence initiatives at The New York Times. He leads a newsroom team responsible for experimenting with uses of generative AI and other machine-learning techniques. Before joining The Times, he was a co-founder of Quartz, the global business news organization that he led in a variety of roles for more than a decade, including as CEO, editor-in-chief, and chief product officer. He has been widely honored for Quartz’s innovative editorial products and creative journalism. He was previously a reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal and an associate editor of Harvard’s Nieman Journalism Lab.

Phoebe Connelly

MSc, London School of Economics, UK; Prior: Senior Editor for AI Strategy and Innovation, The Washington Post, USA

Phoebe Connelly is currently pursuing a graduate degree at the London School of Economics, researching how newsrooms, journalists and creators can build resilience while tackling challenging news cycles, new platforms and emerging technologies.

Previously she was Senior Editor, AI Strategy and Innovation for The Washington Post, leading The Post’s efforts to employ generative AI and other emerging technologies in service of its mission to inform, empower, and delight its readers.

Previously, Connelly served as Director of Next Generation Audiences at The Washington Post. In this role, she oversaw a team focused on accelerating The Post’s reach among younger and more diverse audiences through new products, practices and partnerships.

Before that, Connelly served as deputy director for The Post’s award-winning video team where she oversaw daily and breaking news coverage, managing a staff that produced more than two dozen videos daily.

In that role, Connelly pioneered The Post’s presence on Twitch, experimenting with live video coverage of major news events to reach and engage new audiences. She was part of the team which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for its coverage of the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Marcus Husby

Director of Editorial AI in VG. He is responsible for all AI tools that will be used in the editorial content production. Marcus has been working at VG for more than ten years. Previously he was Head of News at Dagens Næringsliv

Shuwei Fang

Associate Director of Media and Disinformation, Open Society Foundations, UK

Shuwei Fang is Associate Director of Media and Disinformation at Open Society Foundations, working globally to advance open society values at the intersection of media and technology using grants, hybrid investments, and other strategies. Outside of Open Society, she was founder of two gaming startups and worked as an investment banker in Technology, Media and Telecoms.

Ingrid Verschuren

Executive Vice President, Data and AI & General Manager, EMEA, Dow Jones

Ingrid is Executive VP of data and AI and general manager for EMEA at Dow Jones.

Based in Barcelona, Ingrid oversees the overall data organization, leading a team of global researchers and analysts who are responsible for identifying, aligning and executing against critical data needs across Dow Jones. She owns the vision and cohesive strategy for data and AI across Dow Jones, driving deeper insights to inform business strategy, guide decision making and create more value for customers.

Ana Ormaechea

Chief Product Officer, Prisa Media, Spain

As Chief Product Officer at Prisa Media, Ana Ormaechea leads digital product development, artificial intelligence, audience strategy, and design for major brands across Spain, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico, including El País, AS, Cadena SER, Caracol, and WRadio. In her previous role as CDO at Prisa Radio she leads the Audio first product strategy for 30 brands in 4 different countries (Spain, Colombia, Chile and Mexico) with brands such as Cadena SER, los40, Caracol Radio, WRadio. An expert in Audio and Voice, she developed strategies to apply Artificial Intelligence to Voice and Audio with leading projects such as “Victoria, the voice of Soccer” (INMA Best Audio product of the year 2023) or Tailorcast (audio recommendation engine). In 2015, she founded Cuonda Podcast, the first independent podcast network in Spanish, awarded with a Google DNI Found and honoured with a Premio Ondas. She was a partner at Prodigioso Volcan Consulting, where she led the consulting area, promoting the digital transformation of companies and media outlets, including El País, El Universal (Mexico), and Diario de Cuba. In 2015, Ana received a Tow Knight Fellowship at CUNY.

Alejandro Laso Moreno

COO, El Confidencial, Spain

Alejandro Laso COO of El Confidencial, one of the most widely read and influential newspapers in Spain. He studied journalism and computer science, two degrees that a few years back seemed at odds with each other.

In 2000, still without setting foot in a university classroom, he founded and directed several local media in Madrid (radio and online newspapers) which today, more than two decades later, are still operational.

He worked for Mundo Deportivo (sports newspaper), Onda Madrid, Onda Cero (radio) and other digital media. In 2010 he joined El Confidencial where he led the digital transformation of the news outlet, creating the Lab of El Confidencial, the innovation, data, product, and new narratives area. He was appointed COO in 2020.

Desirée García

Director of Digital Content, EFE, Spain.

Desirée is director of Digital Content at EFE. She is in charge of setting the editorial direction for efe.com, EFE’s social media accounts and other digital products. Among them is EFE Verifica, which Desiree launched in 2019 and has become a benchmark for verification in the Spanish-speaking world.

She previously worked as a correspondent for sub-Saharan Africa, based in Nairobi, specializing in international news. She got fellowships to report on conflict and development and has produced the documentary “Owino”, awarded at international festivals.

Gonzalo Teubal

Director of AI and Audiences, Prisa Media, Spain

Gonzalo Teubal is a journalist and has been linked for most of his career to Grupo Prisa in Spain, one of the largest media groups in the world and leader in the Spanish market. He is currently Director of AI and Audiences at Prisa Media, where he coordinates the strategy and governance of AI tools as well as change management for PRISA’s newsrooms, but also for the rest of the company’s departments.

Since the advent of the internet, he has been part of the teams that have driven the development and management of the digital versions of the different newspapers. First at Cadena SER, as part of the pioneering digital radio team, then in the division created specifically for the creation of digital content and products, Prisacom, before finally landing in the print media: at the financial newspaper Cinco Días as head of digital product, applying the latest tools and data to new distribution channels, then at the newspaper El País as part of the strategic team responsible for innovation and development of digital products and, just before that, as Chief Digital Officer at the sports newspaper AS.

Patricia Ruiz Guevara

Coordinator of Maldita Tecnología, Maldita.es, Spain

Patricia is a science and technology journalist and coordinator of Maldita Tecnología at Fundación Maldita.es. She has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Murcia and specialised in Science and Technology Journalism at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

She has worked for five years in the Spanish edition of MIT Technology Review and has collaborated in media outlets such as El País, elDiario.es, El Confidencial, Muy , Interesanteand Forbes Spain; in addition to radio, Twitch, content creation for social networks and event moderation. She has been awarded the Boehringer Ingelheim Award for Journalism in Medicine, the Orange Journalism and Sustainability Award, and the Communication Award from the Spanish Data Protection Agency.

David Sancha

CEO, Hiberus Media Labs, Spain

David Sancha is Chief Executive Officer of hiberus Media Labs. A journalist and consultant with more than 20 years of experience in the media industry, he has participated in the definition and implementation of digital transformation projects in more than 50 media groups across Europe and Latin America. He is the founder of Xalok, the CMS with the largest presence among Spanish-language media outlets, which is currently driving Assistant, a module for integrating generative AI solutions into newsrooms.

Pepe Cerezo

Digital Journey Director and Partner at Programmatic Spain, Spain

Pepe Cerezo is a leading expert in digital strategy and business development, with a particular focus on the media industry. He is currently Managing Director of Digital Journey, a consultancy specialized in the digital transformation of media organizations, and Partner at Programmatic Spain.

Throughout his career, he has held senior executive positions at organizations including RocaSalvatella, the Orange Foundation, and PRISA Digital. At the Orange Foundation, he directed and edited several landmark studies on the evolution of the digital ecosystem, including eEspaña (The Information Society in Spain Report), The Hispanic Blogosphere, and Web 2.0. At PRISA Digital, he served as Director of Digital Strategy, Research and Analysis.

Over the past decade, as an independent consultant, he has worked with many of the leading Spanish-speaking media companies, advising them on digital transformation, audience development, business models, and innovation strategies.He is the author of Liquid Media: The Transformation of Business Models (2018), Media and Subscription Models (2019), and Deconstructing Media: How to Adapt Media Companies to Digital Environments (2022). He also serves as Director of the Digital Journey Library, a collection of books and research studies focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on society.From 2020 to 2024, Pepe was a WAN-IFRA coach for the Table Stakes Europe program and served as a coach for the Blue Engine program in Latin America from 2020 to 2023, supporting media organizations in their digital transformation and growth initiatives.
