WAN-IFRA speaks out in defence of press freedom and in support of colleagues from around the globe. During the past two years, our advocacy campaigns in Botswana, Brazil, China, the EU, India, Malta, Mexico, Montenegro, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Northern Ireland, the Philippines, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Turkey, the UK and Venezuela were supported by members, local Media Freedom Committees, professional colleagues and peers from the global human rights and freedom of expression community
Our advocacy actions include large scale lobbying campaigns, coordinated press freedom missions, awareness raising activities and events to strengthen legal and regulatory frameworks, reduce censorship and confront other challenges to editorial and economic independence of media. WAN-IFRA’s network of influential publishers and editors provides it with access to the highest levels of government and other institutions.
