Business Communities

Six Business Communities drive WAN-IFRA’s services to members.

With the industry’s change from simple business models to more diverse ones, WAN-IFRA members have evolved into many smaller communities, each with its own interests and expectations. We provide focused services and products for each community to serve the entire news media value chain. A dedicated team manages each community to create the right products and services.

Explore our Communities of Practice

Each of these business communities has professional forums dedicated to the specific needs of the sector’s various professional categories. We call them “Communities of Practice” because they serve well-defined practical objectives.

EDITORS AND JOURNALISTS

World Editors Forum

The World Editors Forum is the leading global community of editors and is an integral part of WAN-IFRA. We stand up for a free press, quality journalism and newsroom transformation, and have been doing so for over 25 years. We work with editors to shape their newsrooms for the future. We do so by identifying innovation and trends, tools and best practices. We share this intelligence through our blog, newsletter, meetings, networking events, conferences, research and study tours.

MEDIA LEADERS

Media Leaders Summits

The World News Media Congress and WAN-IFRA’s Regional Media Leaders Summits explore how media organisations and their leaders innovate to ensure a sustainable future in an era of continuous transformation. Which business models are proving effective? When is it a good idea to form partnerships, collaborate or acquire? Where are the opportunities for growth? Where are publishers taking bold risks? What will consolidation look like in 2025? What lessons can traditional media groups learn from new entrants? Join us to discover how some of the most daring publishers are thriving in this constantly evolving media landscape.

DIGITAL REVENUE MANAGERS

Innovate Local

Innovate Local is the only truly global programme for local media professionals. It’s built on WAN-IFRA’s mission to support a free, independent press. We’re building a global hub for knowledge sharing and networking around the future of sustainable local journalism. We offer you two compact webinars a month on a regular schedule. In each webinar, one publisher presents a case, looking at one scalable solution for local publishers and entities. And we invite you to be part of it! The programme is free for all WAN-IFRA members!

Data Science Expert Group

Join our topic-specific professional forums, including the Data Science Expert Group. It is the first community of practice for news media professionals working in data science, data analytics and data engineering. Members interact and share knowledge with a shared repertoire of resources in virtual meet-ups and in-person gatherings. Network with business peers for immersive conversations that count. Learn from successes and failures, link and connect ideas, and identify tools and ways to address your recurring challenges.

PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY MANAGERS

AI In Media

WAN-IFRA’s AI in News Media initiative enables news organisations to unlock the potential of AI technologies, enhancing efficiency, growth, and audience engagement. Through expert-led forums, specialised training, and a dedicated community exclusively for WAN-IFRA members, this initiative provides the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving media landscape and embrace a future shaped by AI.

Global Alliance for Media Innovation

The Global Alliance for Media Innovation (GAMI) is WAN-IFRA’s innovation and research initiative, a network of publishers, media labs, universities and R&D centers, providing our members with new ideas and applied research by bringing the outside in and looking beyond our comfort zone.
By encouraging partnerships and collaborations we aim to create and support a healthier ecosystem for innovation in news media.

PRINT AND PRODUCTION MANAGERS

World Printers Forum

The World Printers Forum is WAN-IFRA’s central point for the international news media print community. Members include printing houses, materials suppliers and equipment manufacturers for the print production value chain from prepress to press and to product finishing and delivery. It addresses all print-related questions and is open to all WAN-IFRA members interested in the future of the newspaper printing business and print-related areas.

CIRCULATION AND DISTRIBUTION MANAGERS

DistriPress

DistriPress is WAN-IFRA’s community of companies, organisations, and individuals engaged in the national and international circulation of publications in print and digital formats. It operates as a community within WAN-IFRA since its formal merger in May 2024. DistriPress plays a crucial role in facilitating business-to-business connections for its members globally, promoting the circulation and distribution of press products in both print and digital formats
