At the company’s press conference, KBA’s CEO and President Claus Bolza-Schünemann said the volume of new investment in newspaper printing technology has shrunk dramatically (more than 70% since 2006). Despite its market share of around 40% for new newspaper presses, KBA expects a continued moderate decline in investment in newspaper production equipment through 2015, rather than a significant recovery.

manroland announces sale of a FoldLine and a Colorman, cooperation with S.E.M.

In a press conference on Monday afternoon manroland web systems informed the trade press, among other things, about recent equipment sales and a cooperation agreement with S.E.M. Eckhard Hörner-Maraß, Managing Director of manroland web system, declared that after two difficult years the company is back on track and trys to recapture the lead position in the newspaper segment. The focus of the company, he said, will remain on web offset.

Andy Kohut’s analysis on Poynter.org of recent Pew surveys presents a challenging outlook on the future of journalism. Figures show that those aged between 18 and 47 (spanning the two generational categories “Gen Xers” and “Millenials”) spend “less time than older people following the news at the outset of their adulthood,” and Kohut states that “younger generations just don’t enjoy following the news.”
