Eliza Anyangwe is Managing Editor of CNN’s multi-award-winning global gender inequality team As Equals, which focuses its reporting on revealing the systems that create and sustain inequality between the genders, and co-founder of The Gender Beat, a collaborative project to promote nuanced, impactful gender journalism and build a supportive community for those who produce it, particularly in the Majority World. Before joining CNN in Feb 2021, she was Managing Editor of The Correspondent, a platform for constructive, member-funded, ad-free journalism.

Born in Cameroon, raised across Africa and currently based in Amsterdam, Eliza started her journalism career at The Guardian. She has written for openDemocracy, Al Jazeera and the FT, and has appeared on Newsnight, BBC World Service, PRI’s The World and Our Body Politic, among others. In 2016 Eliza set up The Nzinga Effect, a media project to tell stories about African and Afro-descendant women, producing the short film, Not Yet Satisfied.

Eliza has spoken on journalism, gender or international development from SXSW to TED Global and International Journalism Festival, and has moderated events for institutions including UN, the WTO, RSPO and the Governments of Belgium and the Netherlands.
