The 2023 State of the Asian Newsroom Survey was conducted in October 2023 by WAN-IFRA in collaboration with the Centre for Information Integrity and the Internet (IN-cube) at Nanyang Technological University’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information.
In the survey, the participants were asked the problems their respective newsrooms will be prioritising in 2024.
The respondents said they would prioritise content innovation, team development, team efficiency, and financial sustainability this year. With the looming threat of AI, editors wanted their staff to work alongside AI and understand the implications of such tools.
Of the 54 participants (editors) who completed the online survey, 23 hail from India, 10 from Malaysia and 10 from Indonesia. Some 41 percent are female and the average age is 46.
