Razak leads The Star’s data journalism unit. He previously worked as a news correspondent at Reuters, a specialist writer at The New Straits Times and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia.

He discovered data-driven reporting during the Cambridge Wolfson Press Fellowship programme. He then convinced his boss to let him try his hand at uncovering engaging stories from data and using new tools to tell them. It has been a steep learning curve but a rewarding journey of discovery.

Razak graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Education. He started jogging to cope with Covid-19 lockdown boredom and aims to complete his first full marathon soon.
