Alfonso Gómez Palacio

CEO Telefónica Hispam, Colombia

Alfonso Gómez Palacio is colombian, he is a lawyer from the Pontifical Javeriana University, has studies in Political Science from Loras College (Dubuque – USA), in Taxes from the University del Rosario and was part of the Senior Management Program – PADE – of INALDE Business School. Since 2019, he has been the CEO of Telefónica Hispam, responsible for all the assets and Company operations in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and Mexico.

He has been linked to the telco sector since 1998. In 2002 he chaired Telecom, a state company telecommunications, leading the process of transformation and creation of ColombiaTelecommunications S.A. ESP as the new operator of telecommunications services in charge of the Colombian State, as well as the subsequent linking of Telefónica as a partner strategic in 2006.

Between 2007 and 2016, he held the position of Executive President of Telefónica in Colombia, Responsible for the group’s assets in Colombia, including operations, mobile and fixed. Among the main achievements is the deployment of the first 4G network in the country and beginning of the development of the fiber optic network in Colombia, as well as the merger of fixed and mobile companies. In 2017 he assumed as President of Telefónica Colombia, managing the financial and operational results of the company, in addition to leading the capitalization process of the company for an amount of 1,370 million euros approximately.
In 2018 he assumed the responsibility of leading the Hispam Norte región of Telefónica.

In 2019, he assumed the position of CEO of Hispam de Telefónica where he seeks to find alternatives that maximize the value of Hispam’s operations, attracting investors and obtaining potential synergies with other market agents that allow us to accelerate and grow. As well as supporting operations to achieve the objectives from a regional unit, focused on FCF, offering possible synergies and best practices.

He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, Fundacion Clinica Shaio, Casa de la Madre y el Niño Foundation, Fundación Cafam, Millonarios, Fundación Juan Felipe Gómez Escobar and he has been member of the board of directors of the Colombian Business Association (ANDI), Everis Colombia, Fundación Semana, Andesco, Maloka Assembly, Comcel and Canal Capital.
