Rupa Jha is a highly driven media executive and editorial leader with over 20 years of experience at the BBC, in India, The UK and Nigeria. In April 2024, she co-founded Collective Newsroom alongside approximately 200 colleagues from the BBC, demonstrating her commitment to innovation and excellence in the media industry.
She has an extensive experience of Television, Radio, and Digital journalism. She is also a champion of building creative, inclusive, and inspirational work environment.
Rupa successfully led the BBC’s strategically important languages operation in India from 2016 to April 2024 as the Head of News. The transformation of Indian languages into the highest performing language services has been one of the biggest growth stories in the BBC World Service under Rupa’s leadership. Rupa has also led many language services of the BBC News including Bengali, Nepali, Indonesian, and Sinhalese.
She was awarded the BBC’s “Leader of the Year” award for her achievements. Among many other journalism accolades, Rupa is also a recipient of the 2021 Poynter Institute Executive Fellowship: Media Transformation Challenge.
