1. LEADERSHIP & BUSINESS

 

1a) Young Media Leader of The Year

Below 35 to qualify. The winner will have demonstrated leadership ability in leading a team through a project which has impacted the company in terms of revenue generation, cost savings, successful rollout of new products or transformation. The person may be in a commercial or editorial role. The jury will consider complexity of the project and impact.

1b) Best Revenue Diversification Project

A project or business that is adjacent to the main publishing business of the organisation that increases revenue, or builds on the original brand and either increases the audience or builds loyalty or leverages the audience that has been built by the main news brand of the news organisation. This category includes events. Innovative, fresh ideas and sustainability of the project will also be taken into consideration.

1c) Best Young Audience Initiative

Website, product, service, or project that engages a young audience which displays innovative, creative and fresh ideas. This initiative should display high engagement with the youth demographic and show potential for future growth. Those initiatives which also show a clear path of sustainability on its own or ties back to the flagship publication will be viewed more favourably.

1d) Best Community Service Project

This award aims to acknowledge the most innovative and valuable efforts by the media company to be of service to its community. Judges take into account the merits of such social programs, the effectiveness of its marketing, involvement of the community and the successful delivery of its objectives.

1e) Best Advertising Initiative

Creative, dynamic and results-driven initiatives designed to captivate advertisers and deepen loyalty across multiple platforms – digital, mobile, print, social, and marketing services. This category celebrates the bold strategies media companies use to win and retain clients. Multi-platform campaigns that are fresh and innovative and which demonstrate the unique strength of each media will be viewed more favourably.

Submission Guidelines

  • This category is open to all news media company based in Asia Pacific, South Asia and Middle East
  • Project/product/service must be implemented between 01 June 2024 to 31 May 2025
  • There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit
  • The fee for each entry is SGD 150

2. REPORTING

 

2a) Best Business and Financial News Story

A compelling story or series of groundbreaking articles that brings fresh insight and perspective to business and finance coverage – making complex topics accessible and engaging for non-financial audiences.

Entries may focus on broad economic trends, business issues, specific companies, or influential personalities. Submissions that demonstrate exceptional resourcefulness in uncovering or breaking impactful stories – resonating with both the investment community and the general public – will be especially valued. If explanatory graphics were used to enhance clarity and understanding, these may be included to support the entry.

2b) Best Technology News Story

A compelling story or series of groundbreaking articles that explains technology, uncovers emerging innovations, or breaks news of new developments – while clearly showing how these technologies affect everyday life.

Entries should communicate complex ideas in a way that is accessible to the general public. Supporting graphics that help make the story more understandable may be submitted with the entry.

2c) Best Climate Impact Story

A powerful story or series of impactful news reports that explores the effects of climate change – showing how it impacts lives, economies, ecosystems, or policy – while informing, resonating with audiences, and inspiring meaningful action.

Winning entries will combine rigorous data, compelling storytelling, and clear implications to help audiences make sense of complex climate issues. Supporting graphics that enhance understanding may be included with the submission.

2d) Best Health News Story

A compelling story or series of health-related news reports that are directly relevant to people’s lives – covering topics such as health, wellness, fitness, or medical innovations and drug breakthroughs that have real-world impact.

Drug-related reporting should clearly unpack key details, including clinical data, ethical considerations, and regulatory milestones. Entries that explain complex topics in an accessible way and help audiences apply the information to their own lives will be especially valued.

Submission Guidelines

  • (Optional) Entries be supported by a written submission explaining in a clear and concise manner the entry’s context and specificity (topic covered, context, challenges, article or graphic’s main qualities)
  • Both digital and printed entries will be accepted
  • For related series, entrants may submit a maximum of three articles.
    If the series contains more than three articles, entrants must select the three that best represent the work for consideration. A summary of the full series may be provided to support the entry and should be completed in the questionnaire within the Awardforce registration platform.
  • Only entries in English language are accepted due to judging constraints. Non English article need to be translated.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit
  • The fee for each entry is SGD 150
  • The entry must have been published between 01 June 2024 to 31 May 2025

3. INFOGRAPHICS

 

3a) Best General News Infographics

News infographics or visual journalism covering general and business news categories including politics, sports, economics, technology, immigration, disasters, conflict, and other subject matters not related to health and climate change. This award recognises excellence in design, usefulness, and clarity of information conveyed in infographics in print and digital formats for both magazine and newspaper publishers.

3b) Best Health Infographics

Infographics that clearly and creatively present complex health information which may cover healthcare, healthy living, fitness, diseases, illnesses, and pharmaceuticals including drug innovation and medical breakthroughs. Entries should demonstrate strong design, clarity, and relevance to health topics, helping audiences better understand medical concepts, trends, or data. Entries in this category may be in print and digital formats for both magazine and newspaper publishers.

3c) Best Climate Infographics

Infographics that clearly and creatively visualise complex environmental and climate topics. Entries should showcase strong design and data use to help audiences better understand issues like climate change, conservation, and ecological impact. Entries in this category may be in print and digital formats for both magazine and newspaper publishers.

Submission Guidelines

  • Entry can be from a daily, weekly or monthly circulation in tabloid or broadsheet
  • Entry presenting any charted information, graphs, diagrams or maps with or without the use of illustration or photography
  • Both printed and digital graphics will be accepted
  • The entry must have been published between 01 June 2024 to 31 May 2025
  • There is no limit to the number of infographics entries you can submit
  • The fee for each entry is SGD 150

4. PHOTO JOURNALISM

 

4a) Best News Photography

Photographic coverage of general news events (for which advance planning was possible) as well as spot news events (for which no advance planning was possible). The possible element of risk implied in the shooting and/or the picture’s timeliness will receive a special consideration by the jury. This category covers any topics which can be considered news including politics or political figures, disasters, war, violence, crime, sports, economics and immigration.

4b) Best Lifestyle Photography

Cultural, travel, leisure, fashion, food, art, fitness and sports photography which captures and celebrates the vibrancy of how we live and explores the cultural pulse of the region.

4c) Best Human Interest Photography

Emotional and heroic photographs that delve into the lives of people which highlight triumphs, both personal and in the community, which are touching and inspirational. May feature both people as well as animals.

4d) Best in Climate Photography

Photography that captures both the enormity of the climate crisis as well as the intimacy of its consequences. The winning photo will not only informs, it will move and compel the audience into action.

Submission Guidelines

  • The entry must have been published between 01 June 2024 to 31 May 2025.
  • Photographers must work as a staffer or in freelance capacity, for at least one publication in the Asia Pacific, South Asia or the Middle East which published the submitted photo.
  • Each entry must only consist of a single photo and may be accompanied by the article in which the photo was featured (if applicable).
  • For related series, entrants may submit a maximum of five photos.
    If the series contains more than five , entrants must select the five that best represent the work for consideration. A summary of the full series may be provided to support the entry and should be completed in the questionnaire within the Awardforce registration platform.
  • Both printed and digital entry will be accepted
  • There is no limit to the number of photo entries you can submit.
  • The fee for each entry is SGD 150

5. BEST COVER DESIGN

This award will be presented to entries that achieve powerful impact on the newspaper or magazine front page. The judges will be looking for pages clearly showing a brilliant treatment of a scoop or unique take on a breaking or feature story, incorporated with captivating headline, creative design style and best use of photographs and/or graphics.

Submission Guidelines

  • Entry can be from a daily, weekly, monthly, bimonthly or quarterly circulated publication.
  • Both digital and printed entries in the newspaper and magazine will be accepted.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit
  • The published front page / cover page carrying the submitted entry should be sent in jpg or pdf format.
  • Each file size should not exceed 10MB. If the file size exceeds this requirement, the judges will not be able to open the file and the entry/s will automatically be disqualified.
  • Participants are encouraged to include a caption explaining the rationale behind the design and which type of audience they are relating to.
  • The entry must have been published between 01 June 2024 to 31 May 2025.
  • The fee for each entry is SGD 150
