Programme Outline

What are the big topics in women’s health in the Asia Pacific in 2023?

What are the big issues, the upcoming conferences and events, and the on-diary stories you can put on your calendar now and start planning story coverage? Who are the trusted sources and contacts to approach for interviews?

Solutions journalism approaches to covering women’s health

The masterclass will include a module to help journalists and editors understand and apply solutions journalism to reporting on women’s health. Solutions approaches involve making a response to a social problem or issue the lead of a story – and carrying out rigorous, evidence-based journalism about the effectiveness of that response.

The module will provide participants with tips to help audiences understand whether a specific response is working, what its limitations are, and how to provide enough information for it to be replicated or adapted elsewhere.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this masterclass, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the major stories and events about women’s health in 2023
  • Develop audience-responsive story ideas and angles
  • Access resources and key contacts for interviews
  • Understand and apply ‘Solutions Journalism’ and best practices as a journalistic approach to covering women’s health

The 60-minute session will be conducted in English.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. However, due to inadequate access to prevention, screening and treatment, it remains as the second leading cause of death for Indonesian women.

Join us as leading gynaecologist Dr. dr. Tofan Widya Utami, Sp.OG.Subsp.Onk talks about the evolution of cervical cancer prevention and treatment in Indonesia, and how the country is striving to improve the efficacy of cervical cancer screening.

The 45-minute session will be conducted in Bahasa Indonesian.
