US NEWSROOM STUDY TOUR: Managing AI, elections and news avoidance

As we approach the crucial 2024 US Presidential Election, we invite you to a study tour of iconic and innovative newsrooms in New York City and Washington, DC.

The tour, from 13 – 17 October 2024, offers a rare and exclusive chance to meet editors and learn about their newsroom strategy – and how they are meeting current challenges.

The tour will focus on three forces shaping journalism: 

  • AI.
  • The political climate and disinformationin sharp focus as the US prepares to vote for its next President on November 5.
  • Disengagement from news.

We will meet editors and experts from:

With numerous AI experiments underway, newsrooms are beginning to leverage AI’s power. Are they using AI to enhance their journalism and news products and redefine workflows? This tour will provide practical insights into what’s working and what guardrails are necessary in this AI-driven era.

When we visit, electioneering will be nearing its peak. What novel approaches to covering the contest are working? How are the newsrooms coping with extreme views and a tide of AI-generated mis- and disinformation

Importantly, what are newsrooms doing to reach new audiences? How are they convincing news avoiders to reengage with news?

We will also visit two legendary journalism schools and meet the experts monitoring the pressures on journalism and democracy and the impact of AI in newsrooms.
