The Board of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), meeting in Glasgow, Scotland on 3rd June, 2019 on the occasion of the 71st World News Media Congress, 26th World Editors Forum and 3rd Women in News Summit, has called on the government of the United Kingdom to address a number of critical press freedom challenges that threaten UK media and risk undermining recent international efforts to prioritise media freedom.

Fernando de Yarza elected first Spanish President of WAN-IFRA

During the 71th WAN-IFRA’s annual congress in Glasgow, Scotland, Fernando de Yarza López-Madrazo, President of Henneo in Spain, was elected President of WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers. WAN-IFRA also appointed a new President and a new Vice President of the World Editors Forum. Fourteen executives from leading news media companies were also elected to new terms on the Board of WAN-IFRA.

18th Asian Media Awards: South China Morning Post makes clean sweep of Newspaper Infographics category

2019-05-08. South China Morning Post Publishers Ltd took home six awards at the 18th Asian Media Awards, half of them for the top three spots in the Newspaper Infographics category. The other wins were for Newspaper Overall Design (Gold award) and Newspaper Breaking News (Silver and Bronze).

KG, Würzburg, Germany, as the new Chairman and Max Garrido, Managing Director of the Spanish newspaper printing company Corporacion Bermont, as the new Vice Chairman.

Launching the News Organizations Safety Self-Assessment

2019-04-04. The News Organizations Safety Self-Assessment is a new resource that will help news outlets to review and improve their current safety practices and protocols. The Self-Assessment comprises a brief set of key questions and guideline notes that should prompt a constructive conversation around safety best practices and encourage practical and effective ways to advance such practices. The Self-Assessment supports news organizations to identify and better understand their own weaknesses and strengths in relation to the security of all individuals working for them exposed to danger, including freelancers.

2018-03-17. One man, Claude Bellanger, has had an outstanding influence on the whole history of WAN-IFRA. He is one of the founders of the organisation and assumed the functions of general secretary from its creation in 1948, then of the president from 1962 up to 1978.
