World’s Press Condemns Violence Against Journalists in the US

In an unprecedented show of international solidarity, WAN-IFRA members from over 40 countries have written to US President Donald Trump to denounce recent violence against journalists covering protests in the country. The joint letter calls for perpetrators to be brought to justice and urges President Trump “to forcefully condemn these attacks and show unwavering support for a free press.”

WAN-IFRA joins the Independent News Emergency Relief Coordination (INERC) to coordinate help during the pandemic

2020-05-01. The Independent News Emergency Relief Coordination (INERC) is an effort to help assist funders willing and able to provide significant financial support for independent news media. INERC’s ambition is to guide the emergency funding to those independent news media around the world who need relief the most in this challenging situation during the coronavirus crisis. Strong Nordic performance as WAN-IFRA European Digital Media Awards announced

2020-04-23. The winners of the WAN-IFRA European Digital Media Awards were announced on Thursday, 23 April – with 7 out of 9 coming from Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The Coronavirus crisis has made these projects more relevant than ever – not least in the category of Best Paid Content Strategy, as almost all publishers see a sharp rise in digital subscriptions. While Sweden’s Expressen won the judges’ vote, this was the first year we launched a Members’ Choice Awards. In a close battle of live-streamed presentations from the finalists, Gazeta Wyborcza won the popular vote.
